| San
Jose, CA, August 21, 2002 - Fujitsu Software Corporation, a leading
supplier of COBOL compilers, today announced the general availability of
its popular NetCOBOL product on the Linux operating system. In addition
to this significant commitment to Linux, Fujitsu Software Corporation also
announces that the IDE (Integrated Development Environment) for this product
is built on the Eclipse open source IDE.
"Our customers'
requests have made NetCOBOL for Linux a mandate," said Ron Langer,
Director of Languages for Fujitsu Software Corporation. "Linux has
long been praised for its stability - a feature that is also associated
with NetCOBOL. It was clear that we needed to bring NetCOBOL to Linux
so we are extremely pleased to be announcing the product's full release."
COBOL applications
play a vital role in running businesses and Fujitsu's NetCOBOL product
line brings vitality to the language. The Linux release includes many
features including support for the COBOL 85 standard, object oriented
COBOL extensions, embedded SQL, data file maintenance tools, and NetCOBOL's
API for creating CGI Internet applications. It also provides an Eclipse-based
IDE that includes an interactive debugger.
"Fujitsu joined
the Eclipse Consortium earlier this year because it recognizes the benefits
of being involved in the open source movement and of providing our customers
with IDE's built on the Eclipse foundation," stated Basim Kadhim,
Chief Architect for Languages at Fujitsu Software Corporation. "We
see Eclipse delivering leading edge features and allowing other vendors,
as well as users, to add complementary functionality."
