| Sunnyvale, CA,
September 1, 2005 –
Fujitsu Software today announced the release of NeoSort, a special
version of Nsort that integrates with NeoBatch to provide support
for DFSORT commands contained in migrated mainframe JCL batch jobs.
The combination of NeoSort and NeoBatch provides a very attractive
alternative to the mainframe for executing batch jobs, many of which
rely heavily on sort steps to achieve the desired results.
NeoSort’s underlying technology (Nsort) optimizes sorts by
taking full advantage of the available hardware – such as
multiple processors, multiple disk drives, and memory. In the Windows
server environment all these items are competitively priced commodities,
so companies can economically set up systems that provide surprisingly
fast sort times for any size of file. Nsort, for example has sorted
34GB in a minute and 1TB in 33 minutes. Even those who don’t
need super-fast sorts benefit from knowing their batch jobs are
going to execute within the available time slots. Those whose sort
steps rely on the DFSORT, or Syncsort (mostly supported), command
formats now have the option to cut their expenses by migrating to
Microsoft Windows servers.
“We have been excited to work with Fujitsu Software to provide
a DFSORT-compatible version of Nsort,” said Chris Nyberg,
President, CEO, and founder of Ordinal Technology Corp. “There
is a large number of sort operations driven by DFSORT commands today
that could really benefit from the power of Nsort, but migrating
them to a Windows server platform requires supporting the JCL and
batch COBOL programs. Fujitsu is an expert and leader in those areas
so was an obvious partner for us. NeoBatch provides a forward-looking
solution for JCL, so together we can say, ‘Give batch a future
and step up to the world’s fastest sort!’”
Ron Langer, VP of Global COBOL Sales, Fujitsu Software Corporation,
remarked, “It’s still a commonly held belief that mainframes
provide the fastest performance available, but our experience is
that everyone who has migrated to Windows servers using our software
has seen a significant improvement in performance. Now we are able
to offer the world’s fastest sort so that people will be in
no doubt that migrating to Windows is a performance-enhancing move.
We can’t say enough about the enthusiastic support we’ve
received from the folk at Ordinal Technology – they’ve
done an excellent job in ensuring we provide the DFSORT compatibility
our customers require.”
NeoSort is available now to early users of NeoBatch.
